How to Ensure That Your Workplace Is Sanitary

If you are a small business owner or manager, you know that productivity is essential if you are going to make the most of your human resources and sell as many products or services as you can. In short, you've got to make sure that your employees are healthy and fit for work, especially if you have any direct control over the matter. While people can certainly go down with an illness when not in work, the fact remains that many "bugs" can be picked up in the workplace. What can you do to cut down on the risk and help to keep that productivity high?

The Breeding Ground

People tend to work in close quarters in a typical work environment and can get exposed to all kinds of germs. You may preach to everyone to wash their hands as often as possible and this is certainly one of the best ways to keep germs in check. Hand sanitiser can be placed at strategic locations and antibacterial soap can be chosen for the toilets, but there are some other areas where you should focus, some of which you may not have considered.

Germs Calling

Office telephones are a breeding ground for germs and people usually don't think twice before picking up the receiver. This means that germs are very likely to be transferred to the surface and you should keep some antibacterial wipes close to each handset, for regular use.

Touch Typing

Your hands will probably come into contact with a keyboard more than any other item of office equipment, so it's not surprising that a lot of nasty germs can hide in between those keys. If you look closely, you'll probably see crumbs of food lodged in between the "H" and the "J" and you can imagine what happens when this food begins to decompose. Once again, antibacterial wipes can be used here, but a comprehensive cleaning should be scheduled for all the equipment, once a month.

Watch Where You Sit

Don't forget about the chairs that your employees sit on, either. Germ-laden fingers can touch these many times during the course of a day and they should also be a focus of your cleaning attention.

Asking the Experts

If you want to make your office as safe as possible, it would be a good idea to enlist the services of a commercial cleaning company on a regular basis. They won't forget any of those hard to reach places.
